Therapies I Practice:
Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS): IFS can be used to treat a multitude of issues but it is particularly effective with trauma. The basis of IFS is that the human psyche is comprised of many "parts" that have their own thoughts and feelings. When a trauma happens, parts can be pushed into extreme and dysfunctional roles. These parts often lose connection to Self-energy which is a person's center that contains all of the qualities necessary for healing. The goal of IFS is to connect each part to Self and return the inner system to a place of balance and peace. To learn more about IFS, visit www.ifs-institute.com
Solution Focused Therapy (SFT): Like the name suggests, Solution Focused Therapy (SFT) focuses on solutions and strengths rather than problems or weaknesses. SFT helps resolve current issues by utilizing the resources, strengths, and support network people already have. SFT also involves examining and re-applying effective solutions and coping strategies used in the past.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): CBT is an evidence-based treatment founded in the premise that thoughts influence feelings which then influence behaviors. By identifying and challenging the negative and distorted automatic thoughts a person has, emotional distress can be lessened and a person will engage in healthier behaviors.
The Gottman Method Couples Therapy: The Gottman method is a highly researched method of teaching skills to couples such as de-escalating verbal confrontation, increasing intimacy and emotional connection and developing a sense of empathy for your partner.
Sex Therapy: Sex Therapy is a comprised of many strategies including education, communication with your partner, sensate focus (or mindful touch), and cognitive and behavioral strategies. Sex Therapy is highly structured and a new skill is introduced each session and homework is assigned.
